Cambiare Podentes: Invocare by Jordan Grant
Harry/Severus Slash
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Harry learns that the only way to defeat the Dark Lord is for him to participate in an ancient ritual that will permanently enslave him to Snape.
http://www.livejournal.com/users/jordangrant/10481.html

According to the LJ anouncement, Invocare is a completed novel-length fic. Only the first part is posted, but it's already a lengthy read, and the remaining posts should be available soon. This remix is based on the originally posted chapters of Cambiare Podentes (which was never completed), with the permission of the original author.

Having read what's been posted so far, I'm very impressed with what Jordan Grant has done. Those who read the original CP posts will recognize much of the text in the opening chapters, but the author has strengthened the characterizations, and as the relationship between Snape and Harry evolves, the reader goes from thinking that they'll never be able to trust one another to believing that they will indeed be able to achieve the level of trust and intimacy required to make the ritual work. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining chapters as they are posted.

ETA As of 1/3/2006 the story is now complete, taking Harry and Snape through the fateful ceremony. A sequel is in the works.

Looking to spread the word-- Ellora's Cave publishing is looking for original m/m stories, especially those in their more popular genres (paranormal, vampires, weres, BDSM, futuristic).

They are looking for novella or novel length original fiction. Their books are released in electronic format with selected titles also being released in print.

Their complete submission requirements are on their website http://www.ellorascave.com/writing.asp.

EC has a very good reputation in the erotic romance field, but as with any publisher, you should research them before deciding to submit your work.

Recent articles on John Glover inspired me to go on a hunt for Brimstone fics. There were very few that I hadn't read before, but I found one worth sharing.

"It came to the three of us in a dream, that we should go to the Wal-Mart on this day, for there would come a Demon, and a Hunter, and the Mother of God." The nuns all nodded, solemnly, and then the taller nun broke into a sudden nervous smile. "It's really been terribly exciting."

I've already recced at least two Snape mentors Harry stories as among the best in their class. Is there room for another? The answer is yes, when the author is as talented as Theowyn. In "The Enemy Within" she shows us Harry after the events of OOTP-- angry, grieving, filled with self-recriminations and dealing with the consequences of his link to Voldemort. It soon becomes clear that he desparately needs to learn to shield his mind, and Snape is manipulated into helping him.

What I like most about this story is how natural the characters feel. Snape isn't warm or cuddly. Even as he grows to understand the horrors of Harry's experiences, he doesn't change his mannerisms or fall over himself to act as comforter. His help is practical, direct, and exactly what Harry needs. Harry, for his part, grows to rely upon Snape while still convinced that he despises and distrusts his professor.

A long, wonderful story.

Just finished watching Medium, which put me in mind of a Harry Potter story I've been meaning to recommend. Tissue of Silver by FearlessDiva is one of the first Harry/Draco stories that sold me on this pairing. Her Draco is in character, yet on the side of the light though he still finds it within himself to mourn those who were once his friends and are now condemned for their allegiance to Voldemort.

Draco's efforts to seduce the (presumably) straight Harry Potter are hilarious, as are the correspondence between himself and Snape.

Warning this is a long story (500K+)

"Most of the time, despite the ridiculous Muggle proverb, Snape had found that Misery did not, in fact, love Company. Misery wanted Company to bugger off and die so that Misery could sulk in peace. Screaming Agony, on the other hand, liked Company just fine."

Severus Snape comes to the rescue of Sirius Black, in his own inimitable fashion.

Tary Tory has written a wonderful riff on The Wizard of Oz. Part of the joy of reading this story was wondering how she was going to pull it off, and which parts of the Oz canon she would incorporate. Even the characters are aware of the Wizard of Oz echoes when a mysterious tornado transports Harry, Hermione, Ron and Snape to Kansas, and our heroes must figure out how to return home from this most unmagical of places.

The story has a nice balance between the evolving relationships and the drama of dealing with being stranded in this most muggle of places.

Crossovers
Smallville/CSI
"Holding out for a hero" by Kat Reitz (Collaborative Evil) and Tzigane
Lex/Clark slash, other pairings, abuse
http://www.rpgplug.co.uk/Asylum/sv/hofah.html
Summary: After years of abuse Lex Luthor turned his back on his father and made a new life for himself as a CSI lab tech. But now Lex is transformed from tech to victim when a crime investigation brings up parts of his past that he's desperately tried to forget. This story and SuperGlue both share many of the same story elements, with slightly different twists.
califmole: Iron Man (Default)
Suppose Lex's upbringing had been far more abusive than we'd previously suspected. Then, after a life altering event, he turns his back on his father, finishes his education, and becomes a CSI lab tech in Metropolis. Clark Kent enters his life as a friend who wants to be something more, but before they can get to happily ever after the secrets of Lex's past come out into the present.

If you're thinking you've read this story, you may be right. But there are two versions of it. In one version Clark is a reporter doing a story on the Metropolis CSI lab, while in another version he is a fellow lab tech. "Holding out for a Hero" is a crossover bringing in characters from CSI Las Vegas, while "SuperGlue" is simply an AU version of the Smallville universe.

Both are novel-length angsty stories, with graphic details on Lex's past abuse. It's interesting to see the influence of having two different co-authors, when it's clear that both stories started from the same essential framework.
