Doing this from Pike's POV was absolute genius. I've seen fics detailing the discovery of the story through McCoy's and I think through Spock's perspectives, but usually just as a setup for h/c. Pike's got a bit more psychological distance from Jim, the ability to think about it without exploding, and yet the personal connection to still make it a punch in the gut. Totally beautiful.
