Once upon a time there was a boy named Harry Potter. Harry had a destiny which meant that it was sometimes hard for him to be a normal boy. So he was given a gift, the ability to transform himself into any animal. He chooses to become a cat, and finds a home with someone who truly appreciates how special he is.

Sorry for the lame opening. But it's darn hard to describe these stories without resorting to cliches. Harry turning into an animal has been done. Harry being adopted by Snape, in either human or animal form has been done. What you need to understand is that these stories are special.

The stories I am speaking of, for the uninitiated, are "A Bittersweet Potion" and "Procul His" by Alchemia and Bugland. These are the two completed stories in what the authors promise is a long story arc. These stories are by turns funny, sad, tender, and they tug at your heart strings. Snape is recognizably himself, bewildered by Harry's strange attachment to him-- half-wanting it, half-wanting to push him away. The evolution of Harry's feelings for Snape are also well handled. And they do a great job with Harry's age. You never get the sense that this Harry is a mini-adult. He is clearly a teenager, with all that means.

There is a third story "Purification" that is currently a WiP. I'm reading it, but it has taken an extremely dark turn, far darker than the earlier two. I'm reserving judgment until I see where the authors plan to take this story.
